Peer-Review policy
The Journal of Sulaimani Medical College (JSMC) follows a rigorous double-blind peer-review process to ensure the scientific integrity, quality, and relevance of published manuscripts.
1. Review Model
- Double-blind: Identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed to ensure objectivity.
2. Review Process
- All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening for scope, formatting, and scientific quality.
- Manuscripts that pass this stage are sent to at least two independent expert reviewers in the relevant field.
- Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on:
- Originality and contribution to the field
- Study design and methodology
- Statistical validity
- Ethical compliance (including IRB approval and informed consent)
- Relevance to JSMC’s scope
- Clarity and coherence of writing
3. Review Timeline
- Authors typically receive the first decision within 4 to 6 weeks of submission.
- Revised manuscripts may undergo a second round of review before a final editorial decision.
4. Reviewer Responsibilities
- Maintain strict confidentiality throughout and after the review process.
- Provide constructive, unbiased, and timely feedback.
- Declare any conflicts of interest or inability to review objectively.
- Refrain from using any part of the manuscript for personal advantage.
5. Editorial Decision
- Final decisions (accept, minor revision, major revision, or rejection) are made by the editorial board based on reviewers’ recommendations and the manuscript’s overall merit.
6. Appeals and Rebuttals
- Authors who wish to appeal a rejection must submit a formal, evidence-based rebuttal explaining why the editorial decision should be reconsidered.
- Appeals will be reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief and/or an independent member of the editorial board.
7. Reviewer Recognition
- Reviewers may be acknowledged annually on the journal website (unless they opt out) to promote transparency and academic contribution.
