About the Journal

The Journal of Sulaimani Medical College (JSMC) is a peer-reviewed, open-access medical journal published by the College of Medicine, University of Sulaimani, Kurdistan Region, Iraq. Established in 2011, JSMC provides a scholarly platform for the publication and dissemination of medical and health-science research of regional, national, and international relevance.

JSMC supports the responsible communication of scientific evidence that contributes to understanding disease, improving clinical practice, advancing medical education, informing public health and health policy, and stimulating further research. The journal welcomes scientifically rigorous research from the Kurdistan Region and Iraq while maintaining an international orientation and accepting relevant submissions from researchers worldwide.

Mission, Aims and Scope

The mission of JSMC is to advance medicine and health by publishing reliable, transparently reported, and ethically conducted research, together with scholarly analysis that helps clinicians, researchers, educators, and policy-makers interpret and apply scientific evidence.

The journal aims to promote high-quality medical and health research, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, support research capacity in the region, and connect local and regional health priorities with the broader international scientific literature.

JSMC considers manuscripts covering clinical medicine and surgery, basic and translational medical sciences, epidemiology and public health, medical education, health-services research, healthcare quality and safety, and health policy.

The journal considers original research articles, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, narrative and scholarly reviews, case reports and case series, brief reports, editorials, letters to the editor, perspectives, methodological papers, and study protocols that fall within the journal's scope.

Target Readership

JSMC serves physicians, surgeons, clinical researchers, biomedical scientists, allied health professionals, public-health practitioners, epidemiologists, medical educators, postgraduate trainees, healthcare managers, policy-makers, students, and early-career researchers.

The journal is published by the College of Medicine, University of Sulaimani, which provides the organisational, financial, and technical framework required for its publication and operation.

Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently on the basis of scientific merit, methodological quality, originality, ethical acceptability, clarity, and relevance to the journal's aims and scope.

Editorial decisions are independent of authors' institutional affiliation, nationality, ability to pay publication charges, commercial considerations, sponsorship, or other external interests.

Where an editor or editorial-board member has a conflict of interest concerning a submitted manuscript, that individual does not participate in the peer-review or editorial decision-making process for that manuscript. Independent editorial handling is arranged where necessary.

Publication Frequency

JSMC publishes two issues per year (biannually).

The journal was published quarterly until 2024 and adopted a biannual publication schedule beginning in 2025.

JSMC is an open-access journal. All published scholarly articles are made freely available online without subscription or access charges.
